I started teaching myself guitar in May 2024, via YouTube and tabs from Ultimate Guitar, and I’ve recorded over 100 covers to date. They’re … fine! Maybe 10% are actually good and watchable. But the point of this project was to document my progress over time (Work in public once again!). It’s also been an amazing musical education in pop and rock: I’ve learned so much about how songs are put together, in terms of song structure (pre-choruses, bridges) as well as chord progressions.

By play count

These are the most popular videos by play count. The 4.5s and 5s in the Qual column are my actual favorites, though.

  1. “Across the Sea” by Weezer
  2. “Please Come Home for Christmas” by Charles Brown but based on Bon Jovi’s version
  3. “You Won’t See Me” by the Beatles
  4. “Long Island City Here I Come” by Geese
  5. “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys
  6. “True Love Waits” by Radiohead (I did this early on and it’s not good!)
  7. “The King of Carrot Flowers (Pts. 1–3)” by Neutral Milk Hotel
  8. “The Winner Takes It All” by ABBA
  9. “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry
  10. “Abandoned Love” by Bob Dylan
